# Directions:
01 - Whisk together flour, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, baking soda, and salt in a medium bowl.
02 - In a large bowl, beat butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Add egg, molasses, and vanilla extract; mix until combined.
03 - Gradually incorporate dry ingredients into wet mixture until soft dough forms. Divide dough in half, flatten into disks, wrap, and refrigerate for at least one hour.
04 - Preheat oven to 350°F. Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
05 - Roll chilled dough on a lightly floured surface to 1/4-inch thickness. Cut shapes using gingerbread people cookie cutters and arrange on prepared sheets.
06 - Bake for 10 to 12 minutes until edges are set. Cool on baking sheets for 5 minutes, then transfer to a rack to cool completely.
